  1. One thing you have to double check. Is the serial daughter board correctly connected to the 8 pin header on the main board. It is not too easy but you could bend a pin and it is not in the socket or you are one pin off. One whole row off and it is possible you got the unregulated +12 (usually around 18.5VDC) from the main board into a chip. Smarthome changed the serial chip to one with better ESD ratings at V2.3 and in V2.4 a new serial board with a protection network for the two serial signals. If the serial port chip was damaged. That could also cause a no communications message.
  2. Glad you are working again. I was not clear. About was the choice not a choice selection itself.
  3. In the Help Tab, About choice. Will give you what your ISY994i has in it. The Pro should have a choice tab. To disable automatic module updates so you can do changes one at a time.
  4. I have not seen any full schematics of a 2413S PLM. There is a reverse engineered power supply part of the 2413S buried somewhere in this thread. The older 2412 PLM schematics are in the Modem Developers Guide and even the original 2414 PLC is in the real older manuals. Observation of the different versions is what information I have and the reported firmware version when connected to an ISY99i or ISY994i or using the PLM test programs through the discontinued Insteon Developers Group with the evaluation copy of Docklight Scripting. The serial port daughter board is in the 2412 PLM manuals with observations of differences. Like a different new one starting with V2.4 The basic PLM commands are in the 2412 PLM Developers Manuals that are found as they where released and not changed with the 2413 PLM.
  5. UDI did develop their own PLM. I understand there are a few production samples made. With a promise from Smartlabs to provide the needed chips or license the firmware source file to them. They changed their mind after UDI did development work. IMHO screwing UDI. They have said they would not be doing any PLM from their development again.
  6. Are you talking back to Smartlabs or using in a different manufacturers designed PLM? Maybe. You could run into Smartlabs having the patent on the technology and if they would put up a big stink. Or call a lawyer and send threatening legal paper work. I would probably pick only the revisions with the latest I have seen firmware 9E. There are two chips in the 2413. Main controller and the RF interface controller. Each has it own firmware. Unless you used your designs own RF setup and controller. Then the main controller would need moving.
  7. Can't say for sure but it should be the same. Their EZICOMM module. Was a 2412 or 2413 base mother board with their custom interface board. The module was also sold to be used in place of a Smarthome Serial Port PLM.
  8. The adapter cable shipped with a 2412S and 2413S PLM. RJ45 to DB9S. RJ45-1 to DB9S-2, RJ45-7 to DB9S-5 and RJ45-8 to DB9S-3. That would be the signals originating on the PLM.
  9. You have to be careful with the 2413S PLM RJ45 type serial port jack and using POE on normally spare wires. Pin 3 and pin 6 are TTL level in and out connections. On the 2412S PLM pin 2 is unregulated +12 volts. I believe the ISY994i could be powered by that power and the ISY99i could for sure.
  10. The serial speed of a 2413S is 19,200 Baud, No Parity, 8 Bits and 1 Stop Bit. I too have seen reports of longer distances. With good quality cable.

Memory here. I believe for a time they had 5.5mm barrel and 2.5mm pin. All of mine are the 5.5mm barrel and 2.1mm pin. If you took one from another ISY994i and it was one of the ones with the 2.5mm pin. Using it on a 2.1mm pin would be sloppy and maybe exhibit what you are experiencing.
  12. Brian H replied to ahwman's topic in ISY994
There was a time period where the connector was a different pin size. They do make an adapter. 2.5mm to 2.1mm and a 2.1 to 2.5mm pin. Depending om which way you have to go. If it is loose My thoughts are the supply has a 2.5mm center pin socket and the ISY994i has a 2.1MM pin.
  13. Brian H replied to ahwman's topic in ISY994
The ISY994i has a wide range of voltages it can accept, 5 to 30 volts.. My ISY99i was 5V .5A. I have two ISY994i. One was 5 volts .5A and the other was 5V 1A. UDI sells a replacement it is 12 V 1A last time I looked. Others have also had there supplies go bad. Two of mine did.
  14. Yes. I have seen two major 2456S ApplianceLinc modules. The V1.? and the V4.?. Both have a surface mounted 30 Volt Zener diode that can short.. I have had a failure in a 4.A myself. It was shorted and killed the unit. The diode is known to also fail in the 2456D LmpLinc. Dead with no LED on the side may indicate it is a shorted 30V Zener diode. I have also seen some reports they can fall off the board as they do show discoloration on the board where thay are mounted. I have also rebuilt some V1.? ones with a new 470uF/35V main capacitor. NOVER was the brand of the original cap.. One actually pulsed on and off at about a 30 cycle rate. I may find you more information on which version if you know it. Like a better description of location of parts. Depending on V1.? or V4.?
  15. There is a power supply portion of the 2413S PLM schematic in this forum. In this thread I believe. Right now my main computer with the exact link is down. So I can't supply exactly where.
  16. This is from checking 3 2450 I/Olinc versions V1.0, V1.8 and V2.3. All three have four capacitors. Three are all the same C3 6.8uF/250V , C11 100uF/25V and C8 10uF/16V. The change is C7. None looked like they are designed to be in a switching supply. As it has the same LNK354GN switching chip as a 2413S. V1.0 10uF/25V, V1.8 10uF/50V parallel to board due to size, V2.3 220uF/50V parallel to the board due to size.
  17. Glad you had no issues. Others have until a Factory Reset was done.
  18. This is the start of adding a 2856D2 V4.3 ID# 16.81.F0 The line showing the module responded back. [ INST-SRX ] Is what I don't see in your LOG. 19. The module is not responding back to the ISY994i. As there are no received message back showing in the log. Double check you have the right six digit Insteon ID when you are trying to add it. Some digits are easy to read incorrectly. Like 0 and D are one we see. The 2456D is the older power line only type module. You may want to try adding it on a different outlet or maybe even the same branch circuit as the PLM. If it works there. You may have a signal coupling issue if it is on the other phase of the incoming power or power line noise, signal sucker issue. Do you have any Dual Band modules to couple the two phases?
  20. Same switching chip in the supply. Yours has a longer white neutral wire routed around the 6.8uF 250V cap. Mine is stretched over the cap and has no extra to wrap around the cap.
  21. I have not repaired any. I have opened one up to see what it has in it. Has the 6.8uF/250V and two 10uF/35V capacitors. We typically see in modules with a switching supply. I have not looked at the bottom of the board to see if it has the same switching supply chip as a 2413S/U Two things to think about. The Neutral power wire is passed over the board from the input on the top to the board to the bottom current sensing device. This may hinder using a larger capacitor due to space issues. If it suddenly goes dead. It has a fuse with wire leads from the AC Line input pin to the board. It is in shrink tubing so reading the value is not possible.
  22. Are you putting the +5 volts DC into the Sensor Input? It has its own internal 5 volt sensing supply signal and is designed to have a dry contact on the sensor input. Though 5 volts probably would not damage it The retail #2822-222 is a 2450 I/OLinc. Sold by retail vendors. Though you may not have much luck finding them either.
  23. It has been reported. You can take the serial board out of the old 2413S and put it into the 2413U. Converting it from USB to Serial.
  24. The replacement caps. Especially C7 and C13. Where designed to be used in a switching type power supply. They also had a higher voltage rating, maximum temperature rating and life expectancy rating. Smartlabs tried to fix it with a higher capacity and voltage rating. V2.3 had C7 and C13 changed to a series designed for switching power supplies. The RS232 chip was also changed to one with a better ESD rating on the serial signals. V2.4 added some signal protection on the serial signals.
  25. This page from the UDI WIKI may start to give you some information. https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Errors_And_Error_Messages
