It looks like Smarthome has PLM's on sale until 10/11/2019 for $29.99.  Coupon code: PLM29.  One per customer.

Was just going to post this myself.  Not sure if this is them dumping older versions or that they are trying to appease people who have had it with PLM issues in the past.  If this is the latest version, I might buy one as a backup.

And on the topic of plm's.  It seems that replacing plm's ends up with mismatched device links tables.  I can't say for certain, but all of my devices have at least one links table error and aside from changing out a plm, many of them I know to have had good links tables prior to that.  Only one of these devices seems to be misbehaving, so I'm not sure if it is worth fixing.

I just sent Smarthome an email asking for the hardware and firmware version of the PLM. If I get an answer I'll post the results.

This is the answer I received from Smarthome customer support.  My question to them was what is the hardware and firmware version of the currently shipping 2413S PLM.   It appars that the answer came from an off shore customer support center.

Kindly let us know if you intend to know if the newer PLMs (that we are shipping currently) are any better with regards to their reliability as compared to the older PLMs. If yes, we would like to inform you that both the FW and the hardware of the current PLM has been upgraded to be more robust and to have a longer life-span. And with this we have successfully rectified the power failure issue that used to occur with older PLM after extended use.

Kindly reply to this email and let us know if you are looking for information that is irrelevant to the information provided above.

They actually admitted there was a problem. No version was mentioned. They need to hire a native English speaking person to be smoother or never answer requests.

 

After v2.4 came out they shipped me a v2.1 and the other two items I received were all defective. The shipping costs to return them was more than I paid. Never again will I deal directly with SmartyPants.

Insteon / Smarthome conspiracy theories are a dime a dozen on this forum.

Maybe overstocked, the reason most products are heavily discounted. Maybe they're cleaning out the stock of <=2.4 HW and $29.99 is a clear conscious? 

I sent an email asking which HW comes with this sale, will report back EDIT; DOH Didn't see Techman did this already; but I do want to see 2.5 written down

+1  I can't imagine that they're making much money on these, so I'll bet they're not new stock.  Cheap insurance, though, but probably not long-term insurance...

Right, that's why I'm asking them. I actually did not have much trouble with the <2.4 and have a 2.4 now. I've been down a spare for a while waiting for 2.5 to be GA. Strange as it may sound, I'd rather pay $80 for one of those.

So there is a 3rd option, they are trying to make good on all of time with product problems. 2.5 is the shipping version:

Hmm. Every time I have worked for a company that was put on COD it didn't end well...having to prepay seems even worse!

So is it UD needing the money up front for production or is it SH failing to pay in a timely fashion causing UD to cut their credit?
