I ordered a Tesla which I should in about 2 weeks.

What should I know about the Tesla node servers and should I use these ?

You really don't need it as Tesla has a very comprehensive Smartphone app that does everything. Which model did you order. Tesla just dropped their prices, make sure you get the current price if you're buying.

I love my Tesla but have mixed feelings about the company! 

You could setup an automation to precondition the vehicle when you are heading out and it is easier then opening the app or if you have a way to display information from your eisy somewhere in can pass information on for display. I don't use the node server much so I set it so it polls the car only once a day because you have to watch what you connect to the car. Items that connect to the car can keep the car awake and put more drain on the battery when not in use. In the end as Techman said their app is about all you need.

The Tesla node server is pretty spot on.  I was the Guinee pig for a lot of it.  Having said that, you may not need to have your tesla connected to isy.  I do.  I use it to "peak shave".  I use the emporia energy monitor at my office to track current kw usage.  There is a node for that as well.  So, in short, I charge my Tesla at the office ramping up or down the amps depending on what emporia tells me about current usage, using isy programs I wrote.  Other than that, I have not figured out how having my tesla connected to isy is of any use to me.  The Tesla app is mostly what you would use.  But if you want to integrate your Tesla with any sort of conditions that your ISY is privy to, then you would find it useful.  The node server can do pretty much everything from control charging, honking the horn, opening the windows/trunk/frunk, turning on the hvac, basically everything.  Although it can't currently make the car ****, only the app seems to have that.  Since that is new to the app, perhaps the node server could add that.  Anyway, I'm sure you'll want to spend the $10 and get the isy node, even if you barely use it.

I am sure you will love your Tesla.  I got the S plaid.  Holy crap it is insane.  I use to have ice muscle cars and am embarrassed by how pathetic they are compared to the plaid.  Your model 3 won't be quite so crazy, but the smooth, silent, instant power and torque can not compare to an ICE.  There is very little chance I will ever buy another ICE.  I do not live in the great white north.  Perhaps if I lived where it is insanely could I would have issues.  It is quite hot here a lot of the time, I have found it to work no different than an ice regarding hot weather hvac.  It was 14 degrees here a couple days and I had no issues at all, car worked totally normal without any unusual battery draw.  Mine has the heat pumps (I think they all do now), and had it parked outside.  I set it to preheat about 2 minutes before getting in the car and it was actually almost too hot, in just two minutes.  But I do have it garaged most of the time.  I have taken a couple of longish road trips and the supercharges are very effective.

Thanks so much. As you say $ 10 for a Node Server is like free so I'll get it and plya with it.  I chose the 3 because I drive less than 6000 miles per year and by far mostly local.  Maybe once a year a trip (from here in Miami) to Orlando or the Florida Gulf Coast, but other than that all short trips to the super market, dry cleaner, my kids who live 5 minutes away and three times a month meetings 20 miles away :-)

If you are in Florida and drive less than 150 miles per day, you will never need to do anything but plug your car into a 240v 50amp outlet.  Even a 30amp outlet would probably suffice.  120v 20a not so much.  Only adds about 1kwh per hour, or about 3 to 4 miles per hour of while charging.  50a 240v give you about 8kwh/hour as it will self limit to 36amps.  If you are going to install an outlet, I would highly recommend a hubbell receptacle.  The $12 Leviton ones at HD are not any good.  I had one of those and it would get extremely hot, so hot you could barely touch it.  Switched to a Hubbell and there is no perceptible warming at all.  Probably if I measured it might be a few degrees above ambient.  The dedicated charges of course work great, but only give you, I want to say 48 amps.  So only about 1/3 more than a 240v 50a standard outlet using the included charging cable and an adapter which, I think cost about $20.

Makes sense but I already ordered the wall connector and now I'm looking for an installer. A more expensive option but I'm ok with that

Congratulations on the jump. I'm looking at getting an electric car next year. I want either the Cadillac Lyriq or Fisker Ocean. Let us know how you like it.

I've had my 2019 3 for 3 years. I had a 30A circuit in my old house which I dyi'd from the dryer outlet.  It wasn't to code but worked with no problems.  When I moved to the condo I had a 50A outlet installed by the electrician.  Charges faster but really didn't make a difference as I charge overnight.  I don't use the node server much anymore but its nice to have.  I always wondered whether when polling the car it keep the car from sleeping thus draining the battery a little.  Not sure though.  

My only other advice (about the car not the node server) is if you get the FSD beta be alert.  It's far from perfect.

It does.  So you need to set the long poll to something really long.  I set it to every 24 hours.  The short poll is 15 seconds for me.  I believe the short poll only polls Tesla server, not the car.  The long poll definitely wakes up the car and will kill your battery if you do something short.

I don't know about Fisker.  Not convinced they will be around.  The Lyriq looks nice, but we'll see.  Waiting for Monroe live to tear one apart.  Most of the legacy auto guys are just putting electric motors in their ice chassis.  Other issue is the chargers.  Hands down, the Tesla network kills.  But I believe Elon was talking about opening up th Tesla network to other car companies.  While I don't hardly ever use superchargers, man are there a lot of them and they are so easy to use and fast.

I saw that 24 hours (86400) is default.

The Tesla NS runs fine but I keep getting blue message in PG3 telling me to restart for upgrade to 0.2.19. However every time I restart the NS (and PG3) 0.2.19 shows for a couple of seconds and then it goes back to 0.2.18 and then (hours later) the upgrade message comes back.

As mentioned, the NS runs fine, so not a big issue, but just wondering.

I've run into this a couple of times, and this trick has always worked.  Navigate to the Node Server Store, click on your Tesla node server button, then the Install button.  A pop-up window will appear, and about midway down, there will be a notice that will tell you that the node server is already installed, and a button that says "Reinstall here" will appear.  Use that button, and the new version will be installed over the top of your original installation, with no disruption to your programs, etc.

I confirmed last night with Bob that there is a bug in PG3 that is preventing upgrading of node servers. Look for a new version around the end of the week.

If you don't want to wait, you would need to delete it, reinstall, and configure.

That didn't work for me last night with Weather flow node server. That's why I reached out to Bob.

Clicking the reinstall button should work.  I have done it on lots of nodes, including the tesla one.  Maybe try a hard power cycle and then use that button.

As I stated in my original post, Bob confirmed a bug in latest PG3 which prevents some node servers from upgrading.

Thank you, I am quite familiar with the bug.  It has nothing to do with using the reinstall button.  Only restart.

To be clear, as far as I know, the bug is only in PG3x (eisy), not PG3 (polisy).   Re-install and automatic updates of node servers should be working on PG3 (polisy).

No, I have polisy and restart of nodes or even the entire polisy with a power cycle or otherwise does not update my nodes.  Using the store to get to the "reinstall here" does work.

I'm sorry, but I need to disagree with you. On pg3x last night, the reinstall button would not work. The node servers needed to be deleted before being able to install the new version
