SSS
Will this module discover All Philips hue zigbee lights and other hue devices directly w/o the need of going though a node server? Link to comment
Geddy
@SSS not at the present time. The ZMatter dongle currently only supports Z-Wave. No updates from UDI lately as to the ETA for additional firmware support for other systems. Though I will say with the eisy and the Hue node server things work very well. Are you trying to do something and having issues? Link to comment
SSS
It’s a bit difficult to configure and I cannot make it to work…would love direct connection are there instructions to use hue server with eisy? For beginners? Link to comment
Michel Kohanim
@SSS, Philips does not use Zigbee HA profile. We should have a beta version of Zigbee implementation in a week or so. With kind regards, Michel 1 Link to comment
SSS
Sorry I am confused, I am using eisy with Insteon usb PLM that’s my base setup, l have Philip hue with hub and 40 lights attached to it l wish to explore if l can use the eisy USB device to connect directly to the Hue devices without the need for the Hub, intent is to minimize as hubs as possible. Michel Kohanim
@SSS, For Hue, you don't need Zigbee. As long as you have your Philips Hue Hub, you can use Philips Hue Node Server (PG3 | Store | Hue). With kind regards, Michel 1 Link to comment
SSS
But I don’t want to use the hub Link to comment

The hub only speaks ZLL or Zigbee Light Link, not ZHA or Zigbee Home Automation. the good news is that eventually you should be able to add hue lamps directly... I've done it with another Zigbee platform outside the IoX platform.. Bulbs don't care if the are connected to a ZLL or ZHA hub. As you've been told tho, The Zmatter device doesn't yet speak Zigbee, but there will be a beta soon according to Michel above. Link to comment
SSS
So when the beta is released will we be able to connect directly w/o the hub? also if we use the node server, can someone point me to installing instructions for my setup : eisy, Philips V2 hub with 40 lights. For beginners? Have you read through the Hue forum? https://forum.universal-devices.com/forum/358-hue/ It's super easy to setup and works very well. I don't mind having the hub because sometimes the Hue app is easier for my wife to set a color. But I only have a few bulbs. I think the "more info" link is still broken from the Polyglot store so you can see if there is more help from the git for PG3 - https://github.com/exking/udi-hue-pg3 6 minutes ago, SSS said: So when the beta is released will we be able to connect directly w/o the hub? Don't know, but why worry about it? Just connect with the node server and you won't even realize the hub is still in your system. Why are you so dead set on getting rid of the hub? Shouldn't have gotten Hue lights if you didn't want their hub. As @Michel Kohanim said above that hue doesn't use Zigbee (in the way that UDI might be imploring the Zigbee service). So, with that comment above I'd probably say the likely hood of being able to directly connect a hue bulb would be slim, but don't know until it's released and tested. If you don't want a hub you'd be better off getting wifi bulbs from a different supplier. Link to comment
SSS
Easy for tech geeks maybe not for me…haha, anyways back to original question, l just wanted check if the current shipping version will support hue devices directly, I believe the answer is no and a future beta is coming but don’t know if this beta will work directly? Just have to read the instructions and trial and error. 17 minutes ago, SSS said: l just wanted check if the current shipping version will support hue devices directly, I believe the answer is no and a future beta is coming but don’t know if this beta will work directly? Correct. Current UDI ZMatter dongle only supports Z-Wave as of this time. Don't know what to expect until UDI gives more information and real life application of the firmware they will release. But given how the Hue line was developed you will probably always be better served with their hub. It's getting back into the whole Matter discussion and thinking process. I expect that all systems will still work better with the "hub" they were designed with, but the Matter support is expected to allow control from other hubs/controllers (mostly assuming it will be minimal control) . But at the end of the day, many of the fine details of the systems will still be best managed by the hub devices were designed to work with. (Just my 2¢) Link to comment

No. Hue's version of ZigBee is not compatible Link to comment
brians
Hue version of Zigbee on their bulbs is compatible with pretty much all Zigbee coordinators... it is their hub that doesn't work with other Zigbee devices. I run several Hue on my Home Assistant direct to my Sonoff USB Zigbee coordinator using Zigbee2MQTT (ZHA also works). Advantage of Hub is you can use the Hue app and make fancier scenes and stuff... newer Hue bulbs support bluetooth but I don't think has advanced features in the app, and probably limitation of range. I don't use Hue Hub, I just want to change lights different colours and have option to add different devices... there are much cheaper bulbs which are not so bad -I also have like Sengled zigbee about 1/3 the cost. LIFX are WiFi and I don't recommend, but I have a few older ones of those that I use still. The issue people will have with pairing a Zigbee RGB bulb to IoX with ZMatter via Zigbee/Matter is how to change colors easily? Does UD Mobile support color picker/wheel? Link to comment
