I just updated UD Mobile on my android phone (new version dated Feb 10), and the settings now show an option to add Matter devices, using QR codes. I haven't seen any options anywhere (in UD Mobile or admin console) to define Matter routers, however that's done or configured.

I just noticed the new app version for android.  The version that I use on iPads does not have an update showing available.  On android, I did not immediately get the option to add a matter device but found that there is something under settings regarding matter that led to rebooting my Polisy.  We will see if this does anything.

The whole matter thing, for me, has been a disappointment.  I have been able to add a matter (thread) device to an echo hub and share it with a google hub, but this device seems to disconnect from the echo after a few days.  I have not figured out how to share border routers so far.  I find the whole thing underwhelming.  We will see what the ISY update give us, if anything.

Well as of yesterday, the updated app versions for both android and IOS were said to be "pending approval" by google and Apple. I guess google approved it faster. Keep checking for the IOS version update.

In defense of UDI, all the Matter related features are showing as beta versions, so this is an initial release that will certainly be polished up over the next little while. It at least allows the wider user base to start testing it in various environments, something USI couldn't possibly do alone.

My complaints of matter are much broader than UDI. Problems with matter seems to be a global issue.  My only problem so far (very limited exploration so far) with the matter support in UD is being unable to figure out how to access any device through a border router (one of the claimed enhancements).

Upgraded IoX to 5.9.1 without issue.  When I open PG3x, not seeing the 14.1p6 version.  Is this normal?

My PXGx version is 3.3.18.

This host FreeBSD version that IoX runs on should be as below:

[admin@eisy ~]$ uname -a
FreeBSD eisy 14.1-RELEASE-p6 FreeBSD 14.1-RELEASE-p6 #4 releng/14.1-n267727-74b6c983723c-dirty: Fri Nov 15 12:13:25 PST 2024 root@bsdev14.isy.io:/usr/obj/usr/src/amd64.amd64/sys/eisy amd64

I tried to add the new Nest thermostat (Matter) with the updated UD android app via QR code. It wouldn't add. I didn't think it would work through my non-border router, but I had to try.

Is it a Thread or IP device? This will always come up in Matter discussions

The release announcement does say "Initial support for light bulbs and plugin modules:"

I saw that, but I still had to try. 🙂

Nest thermostats haven't had a working plugin in a long time. Since it's such a big gap in UDs integration, hopefully it will get a little Matter priority.

Wasn't that due to Google seeing their api as a security risk?

Probably/maybe. I think every software company claims "security" when they don't want to do it. Plus, Google has done almost nothing with Nest since they bought it. Funny how some companies can make APIs safely and some can't/won't.

Regardless, the new thermostat has Matter, and that's probably going to be the easiest way to integrate Google into UDs ecosystem now.

There is a plugin for Nest thermostats, but you have to create your own developer sandbox and Device Access project at Google to use it. It’s free and in the Non-production store.

A production version of the plugin was finished but not rolled out because using it with more than a couple of users requires a complex verification process (including security audits) with associated costs that are just not worth the effort.

Also, it was cloud based and Matter support should be local - much better solution.

I'm overall pretty confused.  My update seems to have gone as expected.  After also updating the app I saw the matter option.  After enabling it and rebooting Eisy it have option to add matter device via barcode.  I have a plug in Wi-Fi outlet.  I reset the device, scanned with UD Mobile and got the error 500 several times   Didn't work.

I see no options in the app or mobile for connecting with thread routers.

I thought the app was getting an overhaul.

I thought the admin console was getting an overhaul and getting rid of the Java interface.

For what is supposed to be a big update, I really don't see any differences or anything new.

Is it just me?

There is an update to the Android UDMobile app that one must download.  As of yesterday, I don't think the iOS app has been updated (but soon, apparently).

They only claimed that they had "laid the groundwork" for moving away from the Java interface

If (when) you get the updated UDMobile app (and configure your IoX settings for matter), you will see an option to add matter devices from a barcode.  I suspect this is for matter wifi devices.  Not sure if it works.  Not sure about thread devices.

After the update to 5.9.1 my router still shows the eisy mac address

The upgrade went fine, but after the upgrade both my wired (re0) and wi-fi (wlan0) interfaces were active.  I have a static mapping for the wired interface on my router.  The wi-fi interface uses DHCP.  I could ssh in under either address, but the admin console and polyglot were running under the wi-fi interface's IP.  Everything worked, but things were a little confusing with 2 entries in the IoX finder, with both listing the wired interface's UID.

After a reboot just now only the wired interface is active again.

My update took only about 10 minutes.  I only have Insteon devices as far as my EISY is concerned.  I do have NEST, Blink, Kasa, and others but no plugins, HA handles those.  Everything came up smoothly except the Admin Console was a version out of sync.  Clearing Java cache fixed that.  So far so good.

Instructions say "It's imperative that you take a backup of your IoX, Z-Wave, and PG3 settings.", I know how to do the first and last one, but how do I backup Z-Wave?

It's under the Z-Wave tab on the Admin Console.

took the plunge and upgraded. no issues at all, less than 15 minutes. Only issue was no matter tab but all you have to do is after upgrade turn on matter in configuration tab and reboot. Might have put that in the upgrade instructions Michel K :)

>>> may have spoken too soon. Synched ud mobile and got a matter error. going to wait on it but rest of my system is fine a reboot much faster

Did you download the new version of UDMobile?

Don't disagree

Got the same error when synced UD Mobile.  Could be due to not having the Matter function in the app. Would like to know when IOS update will be available.

On another thread someone had said that the iOS version is now available.

I had the updated UD Mobile app at the time of my post and had configured Matter.  But when I tried adding a Wi-Fi Matter outlet module it failed.

Just to be clear, after completing the zwave back up, from the admin zwave menu, you must back up eisy the normal way.

Zwave back up is saved during the eisy back up process.
