Sounds like a google password/authentication problem?Nothing changes for your Gmail account. The change affects use of their smtp servers that you use to move email. It's well known that certain people abuse smtp to send spam and other garbage. Stronger authentication tries to ensure that the right people are using their smtp servers.ISY supports Basic authentication for their smtp servers, Google no longer supports Basic authentication for reason describe above. They say you have to use their procedure to generate an approved strong password (16 character) if you want to continue to use Basic authentication..BI now supports Oauth which allows you to use your usual Google username and password for authentication to their smtp servers. I changed my ISY to their approved password for less secure Apps in 2022. Since then it hasn't missed a beat.Yeah, that's why the wiki changed in 2022. Google finally phased out the simple password, but if users had already changed over to 2FA and the app password it has always worked that way. Nothing in that standing changed after 2022 or 2025. I've had mine setup using Gmail since I started with ISY994 in 2016+/- and aside from a few times can't recall there being a large issue with how the setup worked. On 3/3/2026 at 1:02 PM, Ross said:I've forgotten the process and will need to do some research. The steps to setup (but also same to change) the app password are in the UD wiki, but it basically used the Google support steps to direct users where to go to setup/change the app password. But if you go the route of the support ticket please post back what troubleshooting finds and if there's a larger issue that is being addressed or might need to be corrected in the setup and ultimately in the UD wiki instructions. But since they work for some/most something else has to be the root for some accounts getting this error.21 hours ago, Ross said:Please offer your "Instruction Services" to UDI and write the definitive instructions to Migrate to an EISY! I needed it this past weekend. What do you mean? All they did was copy/paste the UD Wiki information. The wiki has had this info (updated) since 2022 - and prior to that worked for how Gmail used to work. As for instructions about the migration they're in the wiki as well, but probably not the most easy to follow. They're simple and written for when Polisy and eisy were first released.

Back in the days of LeeG etc.
Thursday at 03:45 PM1 day I've gone as far down the road as I can. There seems to be no way to make the notifications work. I've stuck with my 994 as long as I can (it still works perfect). The fact that eventually everything reaches a life end, I have decided to just buy a new EISY and get somewhat back to the future... That said, I'm on the waiting list now for new stock to arrive. I never would've thought there was a backlog of chip supply again. Hope the wait isn't long. In the meantime, my 994 just wont be able to send me emails - but it will work everything else.

I have tried the new app password route and nothing works anymore. I even went as far as to setup a GMX account to try and have it do the sending. It didn't work either. In researching it, it comes down to TLS 1.3 vs. TLS 1.0. 1.3 will not allow the format of sending from the 994. The only way would be to find an email provider that gives TLS in the lesser form! I gave up as my last post details. I'm just going to buy new hardware from UD when it becomes available. Why some folks are still Gmailing is beyond anyone but maybe a geek at Google. My guess is their day will come too.

As much as an hour sometimes between sending and the mailbox receiving to my iPhone. I used to send to my AT&T text messages, but AT&T killed that some months ago. I'm looking into setting up Pushover using the Network Resources. If you have this option on your 994 it may be the best solution. Still in the learning mode.

Still in the learning mode. That is a no regret solution. It takes a little to set it up, especially the extremely long Network Resource links. But once you work through those it's a solid, fast solution that is relatively easy to change and expand to new notices. Its additional advantages are what Pushover calls Apps. What they call Apps is actually folders, you can sort your notifications in different folders and each group has a different notification sound and a presence. I have house notices = report kinds of things like sump pump daily activity.. no notification, just there to review. I have another "App" for Battery levels, and one for House Alerts for critical things that screams.Another advantage is that other non-eisy things like firmware upgrades for my router. Those come through an Pushover RSS feed from Zapier. There are a ton of alternative inputs

It costs a one time $5.00USD per device. Here are a few links to help the setup process (in no particular order, the last one may be impossible as UDI has blocked any updates to the 994):https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i_Series_INSTEON:Networking:Mobile_Notification#Pushoverhttps://pushover.net/apps (don't need polyglot)Use Pushover as an alternative to SMS or email notification | Home Automation GuruAdd the Network Module to your ISY-994i for enhanced functionality | Home Automation Guru Edited Thursday at 08:15 PM1 day by BCreekDave

Anyone done that? Thanks. There is a Home Assistant Integration for UDI products.. Think of it sort of as what a plugin is to eisy. You install the "Universal Devices ISY/IoX" integreaton on your local Home Assistant server on you local network, and configure it to log into your ISY on your local network. IMO the Home Assistant built in notifications are very unsophisticated, good for debugging programs, that kind of thing. The don't seem to be kept for long after you view them. I think UDM notifications are more sophisticated / better. For Pushover, another option if you have a policy / eisy, is to get the paid for notification server plugin from the plugin store, it works very well and has options galore. This gives details on how "how to"
