Thursday at 08:09 PM3 days I have a couple of Zwave-LR devices (amongst a bunch of other Zwave normal mesh units), and the most recent i got is an outdoor double plug ZOOZ model Zen14 800LR. I'm wondering how to tell whether this thing is working in LR mode. The range seems poor, to be about the same as my old Zwave normal plugs when I test them. I'm just wondering if this ZOOZ is backwards compatible and somehow thinking it should be in with the normal Zwave mesh?
Thursday at 08:17 PM3 days If understand it, you’ll need to remove the device as it would have been added as a mesh device and add it back as LR device. Have you updated the firmware on the ZMatter dongle?
Thursday at 08:20 PM3 days The biggest indication of LR operation is the node number. It should start at 256. I don't know what your Zwave dongle is, I have the ZMatter, so node names are prefixed with ZY. My first (and only) LR device thus has node name ZY256.But you would have to have included it as a LR device, with some setting up. Notice how the Zwave setup screen below shows the Z-Wave Region as US LR:Then there is the dongle firmware update and everything else that needs to be done:
Thursday at 08:42 PM3 days Author Looks like I'm out to lunch on a whole bunch of stuff here, because my node does not start above 256, and I don't see anywhere to see the ZMatter version. Thought it was somewhat up to date, but obviously ZMatter is another animal. So I have to hook it up to a Windows device to upgrade it?

If it was never updated, your ZMatter dongle is very likely at firmware 7.32. You can see the version in eisy-ui by going into the Z-Wave menu and clicking on X-Ray -> DH Controller. Here's mine after the update, see how the APIVersion = "07.46"
Thursday at 09:45 PM3 days To install as Zwave LR the device must be installed using Smart Start in eisy=ui

It's at 7.32. what's the procedure for upgrading it?

Thursday at 11:03 PM3 days For the procedure, read the forum thread I referenced earlier. Pay attention to the posts written by me and @junkycosmos .For using a Mac, you'll have to figure out the equivalences on your own. @Javi mentions having used a Mac.Read the whole thread before getting started. Friday at 04:56 AM2 days Author Thanks, all y'all, I was able to upgrade using my Mac. I stopped at 7.45, maybe I'll go to 7.46 at some point.

I finally upgraded to 7.46 because it was timing out trying to SmartStart add the ZooZ 800LR switch, but it's still timing out. Here's a screenflow... https://youtu.be/uigRtHaZa1EI've also attached a couple of logs that I referenced in the above video . combined-logs-2026-10-23T14-13-22.zip
Friday at 03:32 PM2 days As you have found out, "Long Range" is actually describing the time and effort needed to get it working...But have you properly factory reset the device you're trying to add first? I had previously added my Shelly device as a regular mesh device, and doing a ZWave exclude wasn't working, So I ended up factory resetting it (pressing the button on it while plugging it in).The fact that the LR radio button is on by default would indicate that your dongle configuration is correct. Friday at 04:34 PM2 days Author I didn't know about factory reset!(I did it successfully, but still same timeout... "Discovery Timed Out")I'm quite sure it's actually seeing it, but just not finishing the interview. Edited Friday at 04:38 PM2 days by johnstonf
Friday at 04:57 PM2 days Ok, just to make sure nothing got looked over. The Long Range box was checked after you finished the dongle upgrade process, right?Did you end up needing to use the Zsniffer tool to enable it?
Friday at 06:12 PM2 days Author I need to be a little bit careful answering this because I'm not sure. It seemed pretty smooth, and I didn't have to answer anything about license or use ZSniffer to get these options that I've shown in the screenshot, is that what you mean?

Friday at 06:43 PM2 days No, I meant in the dongle upgrade screen, that I posted above. Is the Z-wave Long Range box checked?Ah sorry, I hadn't seen the video (I was outside just reading your post on my phone). Looks like it's set ok.Do you have another, different LR module you could try? Edited Friday at 06:58 PM2 days by Guy Lavoie

Friday at 08:47 PM2 days The only difference left compared to mine is that I also turned on the fast communications feature. You could give that a try.
Friday at 09:08 PM2 days Factory reset zwave device + reboot eisy so we are starting fresh. Wait at least 5 min after reboot.Remove Z-Wave device from power (very important!) > Scan QR Code, click next (or whatever), reapply power. If it fails attache the combined logs again.
