I don't think the variable association matters to me either.

Remind me to never buy a Z-Wave device.

I dunno. All of this temperature stuff seems like it should be it's own NS. I for one don't see the correlation to the concept of a "Virtual Switch". (insert grumpy old man emoji here)
-
Agreed. And Thank You! I can now get rid of my hidden keypads that I was using as banks of "virtual switches".

This made me chuckle and think back to when I first got my ISY-99. All I wanted to be able to do was dim the LEDs on the switches in the bedroom at night. When I first got an RPI and loaded Polyglot on it, all I wanted to do was turn on the white noise machine when I turned off the TV (via Harmony). Oh boy. Once you start seeing the capabilities, it's never ending...

It would be nice if a moderator could split this off into a new topic under Polyglot. Info on this great new nodeserver might get lost otherwise.

Years ago I used a couple of Fanlincs with Insteon keypads. Didn't have any issues, but I did learn something... I never changed the speed! So when we moved to our current house I just put in on/off Insteon wall switches. Simple and works 100% for my needs. If I were wanting to control fan speeds I would probably look into the Bond Bridge hub and nodeserver.

Can you point me to (provide link) the motorized window treatments that you are referring to that are hardwired and use Cat5? I would be very interested. I don't like wireless much and really don't like battery powered. Thx.

As the OP of this thread I'll chime in (again) and say that I concur with @apnar on the description of the problem. It's been well over a year and this hasn't been addressed.

I've been working with @Jimbo to get the Polyglot Hue Emulator to work with Brilliant, but he has a life outside of this forum (go figure) and we aren't there yet. What I have successfully done is get the Emulate Hue integration on Home Assistant up and running and it seems to work well. So I DO, in a roundabout way, have control of my Insteon with the Brilliant.

I got it too. Did not click on it though.

I get the extraneous sheet too. I just assumed it's one of those "that's just the way it is" things.

I agree with everything you brought up, but especially these 2. I've followed and grown with ISY over the years with small leaps, so most of this DOES make sense to me, but I feel sorry for anyone trying to come into this ecosystem cold. On the other hand ... I don't believe this is out of the ordinary for any system of such vast capabilities. I'm thinking of Home Assistant and OpenHAB, both of which I find to be very complex and difficult to make out. Much more difficult than the ISY ecosystem. I have made some progress with Home Assistant, but I have given up (more than once) trying to get going with OpenHAB. And, as pointed out, at this point, Polyglot is free. So we really should be (and are) eternally grateful for what we've been given.

Ain't that the truth.

I'm seeing the same issue with SonosController. There is a higher version available, but I can't get it to update by stop/start.

Sounds about right.

Mine shows it has bounced back and forth between Encino/Santa Clarita and Sacramento five times now. Of course, it's entirely possible it never left Encino/Santa Clarita at all. After 3 weeks, it now shows that it is in my town and to arrive tomorrow by 8 pm. We'll see. Fingers crossed.

Very true. And interesting timing for me. I was just this morning doing some snooping around Home Assistant to try and figure out where the money comes from. I didn't find anything, but I didn't try very hard either. Hard to believe it's all volunteer over there, but I've been wrong many many times before.

Mine is taking in the sites in Encino, CA today. That's a new one.

Mine has been bouncing back and forth between Sacramento and Santa Clarita for 2 weeks now. ?

Chrome. First noticed it yesterday.

Thanks @simplextech That did the trick. I also coerced Chrome/Google to save my login info. As far as I can tell, this is working for me now.
