Compare models
The ISY99i has reached its firmware size limits and will have no more firmware above 3.310 avilable for it. So the only real option is one of the ISY994i models. viewtopic.php?f=44&t=10771

Release 4.0.1 Beta Is Now Available
After installation I have a problem. I am using the method c. and the 99i Administrative Console Icon insists I choose my device in the ISY Finder ever time I start it. Same for Dashboard.

Are "dual band devices" a joke?
There are internal photos of the Insteon Dual band Devices in the FCC Database. If the module in the photo. Has a daughter board marked Insteon RF Modem. The antenna is the coiled piece of solid wire.

Are "dual band devices" a joke?
Adding a wire to the internal antenna could detune the transmitter in the module. Void its FCC acceptance. Module uses a power line derived power supply and there is a very good chance the antenna wire would be AC hot to any external safety ground.

scenes with insteon and X10 devices
Do you have the optional A10/X10 Firmware add on module? If you do here is some information from the UDI wiki. http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index ... ed_A10/X10 You may also want to give the UDI wiki a look at. There is very good information there. Including a full users manual. http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index ... =Main_Page

Curious KPL8 running program / scene effect
Well from all I have read. A dimmer on an outlet is against the electrical code. Someone not familiar with the setup. Plugs in a portable fan, vacuum cleaner, Nondimmable CFL or LED Bulb in a lamp and boom there goes the KPL or the device plugged into it.

Curious KPL8 running program / scene effect
You are controlling a wall outlet with a dimmer type KPL? Not safe to use a dimmer on a wall outlet. Too easy to plug a device not made to be dimmed plugged in.

4-Way wiring help
You may want to look at the Full Users Manual. It shows how you use the Travelers to get the power to each switch location. http://wiki.smarthome.com/index.php?title=2876DB_Manual There are two manuals. Above and below hardware revision 5.0.

Turn on the Insteon Bulb locally...
Though more costly than a RemoteLinc2 and optional Tabletop Stand. You could put a SwitchLinc or KeypadLinc in the optional Insteon Tabletop Case. Not sure if the bigger Dual Band Models Fit. http://www.smarthome.com/2402WH/Tableto ... ite/p.aspx RemoteLinc2 can also be used with its optional tabletop stand. http://www.smarthome.com/2444BWH/Remote ... and/p.aspx

INSTEON Water Leak Sensor, low battery on ISY99?
The choice of no low battery notification is Smartlabs choice and they never comment on their choices. Like a big secret. Even the Developers Group members rarely get any data on their choices. Sometimes if we are lucky they give us a set Developers Notes for the device in question. The leak sensor has no low battery notification as of the publication of the notes we got. Also they specify it has a Lithium Battery and it should last ten years. From the Heartbeat findings. Seem it doesn't match the Developers Notes either.

Problem Programming KeypadLinc
CFLs can be a problem and unfortunately can be a signal sucker or a noise maker. Depending on the design of its electronics. I am fortunate in having some X10 test meters. Not 100% but most noise and signal suckers to X10 also effect Insteon to some degree.

Water Leak Sensors-2852-222
Though things do change with SmartLabs. The Developers Notes for the Leak Detector. Show Dry, Wet and Heart Beat messages. No Low Battery messages.

Problem Programming KeypadLinc
Possibly the KPL relay if its rating is not at least 15 amps which is the rating of most outlets. The dual bands are rated at 20 amps but I would have to look for the older power line only ones. Found the 2486S in the Discontinued category. 13 amps, 480 Watts Incandescent. A standard mechanical wall switch can control an outlet as it is rated for 15 amps.

Problem Programming KeypadLinc
Well sometimes a different brand of CFL will act differently. Some have used the small Leviton wire in filter between the Insteon KPL or SwitchLinc Load connection and the load. Small enough to fit in most electrical boxes. http://www.smarthome.com/4835/Leviton-6 ... ock/p.aspx. Try running a test with the ApplianceLinc, the ISY Controller and the CFLs Off. With the Event Viewer in level 3 reporting. Turning it On and Off. If the hop count is 1 or 0 and changes randomly. You may have a poor signal to that ApplianceLinc and the CFL is enough to stop communications. Improving the signal to the ApplianceLinc maybe enough to overcome the CFL noise or signal absorptions.
-
Problem Programming KeypadLinc
Well not all CFLs care 100% the same. One of them could be a problem. Though my thoughts are. You have a very marginal signal to the ApplianceLinc and any added power line noise takes it over the edge. Have you tried using the Event Viewer in level 3 and using My Lighting to turn it On and Off. While having the KPL with the problem load both On and Off?
-
Problem Programming KeypadLinc
Is the KPL a dimmer type and what type load is it controlling? The load maybe noisy or a signal sucker. So when the load is On the power line Insteon signals can't get to the ApplianceLinc and maybe marginal when the load is Off but still activates the AppliancLinc.

Are "dual band devices" a joke?
Fancy metal switch plate covers can kill almost all the RF signals from a Dual Band device. Power line noise can be a problem. RF devices like baby monitors and cordless phones in the 900MHz band can be a problem. Have you done the four set button tap communications routine to verify communications with the SwitchLinc across the room? Controlling the incorrect load with a dimmer type switch can be a problem. No nondimmable CFL and LED Bulbs or low voltage loads. I would try the Event Viewer in Level 3 as suggested and see what it shows.

Adding Motion: Cannot Determine Insteon Engine
If the RF transmitter or receiver portion of the Motion Sensor has failed. You may still see the LED flash and detect motion but no signal is sent back to an Access Point or Dual band receiver.

Current State of Devices - blank
Same with me. I also did not reboot the ISY994i just my operating system. I also verified the ISY994i's address was in Zone Alarms Trusted list. Microsoft's Security Essentials has never been a problem and I doubt it was this time. I also tried a query and could see messages going out by a modules LED flashing with power line messages.
