Very simple instructions requested to get ISY on Polisy

I need this dumbed down to my level, please.

I have an ISY and it is on 5.0.16C.

I have a polisy.

I see the thread that is titled  get started but what assumptions are made to "get started"?  do I need to have installed something on my polisy?  do I need a certain firmware on my isy? do I need my polisy connected to a PLM?

part of the reason I am looking into this is because I want to be able to avoid being stuck when my 2413U plm dies.

(a related question:  I am reading that firmware can be "automatically updated" to 5.2.0 but my 5.0.16C wont give me that option.  To what should I upgrade?)

No assumptions are made to get started. Insteon is not ported to polisy so your current setup is irrelevant.

Polisy would be a new setup. I'm not sure how clearer they can make the instructions. What part of the instructions are you having problems with?

I would upgrade your isy to 5.3.4 if you want to upgrade your isy (and do not have the 300 zwave board) which can be found on the usually upgrade page

@someguy,

Most recent versions of Polisy come with isy service already installed. So, the question is how old is your unit. If you have doubts, click the button behind the little hole on the front only once. This will download and upgrade your Polisy (if not very old). Once you hear the beeps, then isy on polisy can be accessed through the ISY Launcher. To have isy support INSTOEN and/or Z-Wave, please go to the Admin Console | Configuration and check INSTEON/Z-Wave support checkboxes and then click on the reboot button.

We are almost done with migration tool from ISY994 5x backup to Polisy. So, if you don't want to start from scratch, please wait till the end of this coming week.

With kind regards,
Michel

How about the plm?  Don’t I need a 2413u to use my polisy as an isy?

You should be able to use your 2413S with the Polisy using the serial cable that shipped with the PLM.

The Polisy will also support the USB PLM

Insteon requires that you use a plm with 3rd party systems. Polish supports the 2413u and 2413s

which firmware would it be best to have on my isy to be able to migrate it to Polisy?

also:  once I click that button and the Polisy beeps, where do I see the ISY in Polisy?  I can't see it anywhere in there.

Same polisy IPaddress but with port 8080.

The ISY finder app will aitomatically locate it and offer http and https selections.

my isy finder app does not find my Polisy ISY.  I tried putting in my polisy address into the "add" button on my isy finder app and it didn't work either.  any suggestions would be appreciated.

What format did you use when you put the address in?

I tried:

https://192.168.1.105:8080/desc

and

https://192.168.1.105:8080

and both of those with only http://....

@someguy,

Most probably you have VPN or Firewall software on your computer that's why Polisy is not found. Also, it's either

http://192.168.1.105:8080/desc OR
https://192.168.1.105:8443/desc

You never told us how old is the unit.

Michel

Michel or others:

My Polisy was purchased (from universal devices) in July of 2020.  I tried both of the options you mentioned and neither worked.   any other suggestions?

@someguy Are you able to log into the Polisy through a web browser for the dashboard? If you're able to get that to load then you should be able to get it added to the launcher for admin console of the ISY on Polisy. I just tried the suggestions above and got it to load. So either you're not running the latest version on the Polisy so the ISY isn't installed or running there yet or you've got something blocking you on the internal network access.

If you're able to log into the Polisy through the web access what is it showing for version?

I'm currently running:

Make sure that you've got the Polisy updated to a recent version that has the ISY package installed and running by default. Otherwise, I'm sure there's other commands that need to be run before the Launcher/Finder will see the ISY running on the Polisy.

Are you able to SSH to the Polisy? What's the result of the following?

uname -a

Let us know the result. You might need to update the Polisy to a more current version.

@someguy

Check out the Polisy User Guide and see the SSH information:
https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Polisy:User_Guide

You will need an ssh utility (such as putty) to connect to Polisy over the network:

1. ssh admin@polisy (you can change polisy to the IP address of your unit)

2. Default password is admin.

(NOTE: PORT is 22 - that's the default port for SSH)

Since it sounds like you don't have much experience with SSH then I strongly suggest you go the UDI ticket route and get more detailed help with your specific issue. You run the risk of really goofing  up some stuff accessing the Polisy this way so make sure you have somebody helping you.

I was in the same boat as you and unsure of the steps to take when starting up with the Polisy and just had to read and trial and error a few things. It seems that most here know this stuff inside and out and can spout what to run without second thought. You'll get the hang of it with a little help from the support team.

Though, it is strange if you're running same as mine that you're unable to add the IP in the Finder window you run the ISY Launcher app.

@someguy, I responded to your ticket. I think your Polisy OS is too old and does not have the packaged kernel (i.e. you cannot upgrade the OS with the button on the front). So, if you do know how to use ssh, you need to do two things:

curl -s https://pkg.isy.io/script/update121.sh | sudo bash
sudo shutdown -r now

Wait for the unit to reboot, then:

cat /usr/local/etc/udx.d/static/update13.sh | sudo bash
sudo shutdown -r now

This should do it.

Michel

this SSH stuff may be a little more complicated than I can figure out.  I tried this in a "Windows PowerShell" window:

@someguy Bring up the windows task bar and in the search window type in <cmd>

2021-12-16_15-34-21.png.6d3fd5e85b97d0098cca5b9b72b4c2ae.png

That will bring up the Command Prompt window.

Now in that window type in:

ssh admin@The IP address of your Polisy

2021-12-16_15-37-29.png.e49a11771d1112b2f2e74536fbad5d50.png

Your IP will be different than mine listed above, I am just showing you that as an example of what you should be typing and what you should see.

Once you have opened the SSH shell for the first time you will be promoted to accept the key. Type yes and you can now SSH to your Polisy. Now you will need to type in the Polisy admin password which by default is admin.

You should then see this screen.

2021-12-16_15-41-45.png.8760b18a8fb1a05baf8c872fb3f3661e.png

At this point you are ready to start updating your Polisy. Copy and past the first line below, then when that has completed, copy and paste the second line and then allow 10minutes for your Polisy to completely update and reboot.

curl -s https://pkg.isy.io/script/update121.sh | sudo bash
sudo shutdown -r now

Once it has fully rebooted, you will need to open a new SSH Command prompt. Follow the same procedure as list above, however this time you won't be prompted to accept the key. This is normal, that only happens the first time you SSH to a new device.

Now that you are connected to the Polisy once again via SSH, copy and paste the following one line at a time again.

cat /usr/local/etc/udx.d/static/update13.sh | sudo bash
sudo shutdown -r now

You will once again have to wait while the Polisy updates and reboots. Once this update has been completed  you should be able to simply use the Polisy web interface to update.

When you start Polyglot for the first time,

https://the IP address of your Polisy

You will be warned that the certificate is invalid and advised not to proceed to the web site. This is normal. ignore the warning/s and proceed. The steps to ignore the warning vary by web browser and antivirus software installed. Read the prompts and proceed past the warnings.
