Why?

Well, there is value in redundancy, or for sandboxing. And I do have another location that I will likely be moving over to IoP/Z-Wave soon. But the big reason I ordered the second Polisy (from a local Cdn supplier) is that they bundle it with a 2413S PLM!

They must have a bit of stock left, and are being rather shrewd with it.

So, now I have several backups of the 2413S PLM units, including this brand new one.

Any money now, expect that Michel will announce the 2413 Pro next week! ?

Was that tongue in cheek or could that be a reality? I always wondered why UDI never produced any Insteon Devices besides a controller.

The comment was entirely tongue-in-cheek, but I suppose I'm hopeful, like everyone else.

UDI did produce a PLM at one point, and a few prototypes are in use (I think Michel wrote somewhere that he still uses one in his home).  Apparently, Smarthome decided against selling the necessary chips to UDI at the last minute, so it was never produced at quantity.

If you've been following along in Smarthome section of the forum you would know that Michel has submitted and offer for rights to produce PLM's and is in negotiations beyond that, but NDA prevents him from disclosing much.

And yes UDI did design a super PLM, that never made it past prototypes because smarthome backed out of the deal.

Some more updates:

1. There might be hope for those who have Hub IIs ... there's a high likelihood that they can be converted to a PLM
2. It's become evident that manufacturing 2413S/U is probably not going to happen since some of the parts are ETL'd, and 3 others are not available for another 18 months
3. Our focus is now on PLM Pro which was designed by our very good friend at SH but was sacked in favor of the Nokia hub

So, I think we'll have a very short term solution (Hub II) and a longer term solution (PLM Pro).

I shall keep you all posted.

I saw that, but I can't understand how that applies to that sentence.  It sounded like he was saying the parts are no longer manufactured.  Where ETL refers to data, not parts.

Don't know for sure either, but I took it to mean the 2413s and U's are made from components from so many different sources that reproducing them would be a logistical nightmare.

Acquiring the rights and then dealing with the current supply problems we're all facing is likely compounding the issue.

That link is the PLM Pro by the now gone Smartlabs.

It had a universal power supply 100VAC to 240VAC. 50, 60 cycles. Back plate was separate so it could be changed to match the local electric outlets. Faster memory and link database increased from ~1000 links to ~4000 links. Looked similar to the case size used on the 2457D2 LampLinc. Serial, USB and Ethernet versions where in the FCC data.

EOL likely meant some parts from the part manufacturers are at the end of their life for being manufactured. 

A while back I was repairing a SL and looking to order some parts for it and found some of the IC's were already out of production.

Hi All, apologies. Yes, EOL (ETL is similar to UL). Yes, Nokia Hub is using an EOL ESP32. Yes, HUB Pro is what was scrapped by SmartHome. I am using one right now (thanks to our most esteemed friend who's helping us with all this). It works great! It's compact, cool, and lovely all around.

And connect to the rx/tx pads on the hub?  The hub actually has a really nice and powerful radio in it so it makes a nice access point.

found this on reddit.  It is a v1 hub, so not that much help.

Took a picture of my V2 hub.  Lots of header pin locations to choose from.

 

thanks - mine looks like that as well. FCC photos show that one and a newer iteration that has some pins in the same section. I moved the discussion over here
