It's not a critical update for me though, I won't be using any matter devices soon and everything is functioning fine as is. I'll probably have to open a ticket sometime. How have you tried to update? Quote
JCS Posted February 25 Posted February 25 (edited) Hi, just wanted to share my experience here. I have both eISY and POLISY devices and both had 5.8.4 prior to the upgrade to 5.9.1. The eISY upgraded without any issue. I left it for 30 mins after I clicked on the upgrade packages button, and then rebooted it. I restarted the admin console and I saw that it's on 5.9.1 and I confirm the OS version via https://eisy.local:8443/WEB/sysconfig.txt and it is at 14.1. And that's very seamless. Then I shut my eISY and turn on my POLISY device (I don't think I need to do this but I just didn't want to get confuse). POLISY is my backup device so it's typically off and I only turn it on when I need to update the firmware or if I want to do some testing. Anyway, same thing I did but this time the UUID was set to 00:00:00:00:00:01 and showing everything else okay (version 5.9.1 - OS 14.1). So I opened a ticket and Michel jump on it right away (really great folks at UD), he gave me few instructions and then did gotosupport session. He said that the POLISY did not complete the upgrade and he did everything manually. We spent about 20-30mins on the session and all is good after that. Then I did a couple of reboot to make sure it's booting up properly before I shut it down and it did and run my eISY up again without any issues on all my devices and 3rd party integration. But here's my experience so far on eISY. The next morning, most of my main lights are on (Insteon, z-wave, and wemo). I just turn them off and decided to monitor it for now. But today (3rd day), my z-wave and zigbee devices were not responding and found out that both are not working (clicking on the Z-Wave and Zigbee menu and only saw something in line "not responding"). I restarted eISY and all devices are functioning well again. Let see what happens tomorrow. Anyone had/having a bizarre experience after upgrading to 5.9.1? Thank you! I'm currently on firmware 5.8.4, an OS 13.2 If you power cycle eisy and the upgrade button still doesn't work to upgrade you, you can try using the multifunction button. Look in the wiki for the correct number of presses of the button. If that still doesn't work, it would be best to open a support ticket. Quote
bcdavis75 Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Hey All. I've been waiting/watching how things are going for the rest of you before pulling the trigger on this update. I'm running a Polisy with the Zmatter board installed. For those of you with Polisy's that had upgrade issues, did UDI determine if there was a common cause or a missing prerequisite? Quote
Guy Lavoie Posted February 28 Posted February 28 If a common cause was identified, it wasn't mentioned here... But it's interesting that only some Polisys got bricked, and no eisys as far as I know. 1 Quote

As @Guy Lavoie says I think there might have been something (perhaps) internally that UD found a connection, but no users here have said what was their common link. The basic thing is more or less have you kept your Polisy up to date or has it stayed on a very old version of something? I don't personally have a Polisy, but was helping with one before this release to at least get it up to current release to be ready for the update and it bricked. It was a very early Polisy build. If you're concerned I would suggest possibly opening a support ticket to ask UD directly if they knew/determined what the common thread is and possibly review your system or give you the processes to review your system to see if it would be at risk. Some that seemed to have a bricked device appear to have a way to resolve it. At that point it becomes a situation of if you've got the pieces and experience to fix the device. larryllix Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I had one of the early release polisys. IIFC there was an early BIOS chip that had to be udated. UDI spec'd a microSSD to USB interface and gave me an image to update the BIOS, and I still run my polisy with the latest updates. IIRC the USB/microSSD adapter cost about $9 on amazon.com. Quote

This time I run AC => upgrade and waited until the Polisy was visible in AC again. Unlike the first unit, they both after about 10 minutes showed up in AC again. They still showed AC 5.8.4 and OS 13.2 so then I pushed the front panel button ONE time and with both units all the front lights started flashing as they should during an upgrade, this lasted for about 10 minutes and then the units rebooted and were running OS 14.1 and AC 5.9.1. THIS IS NOT THE APPROVED METHOD OF UPGRADE. It's just my experience. On 2/16/2025 at 10:28 PM, xlurkr said: Polisy is so....interesting. This morning, after letting it sit overnight doing an "upgrade" (no beeps, no AC disconnect, no flashing LEDs) I checked the status. Still 13.1. I rebooted, and when it came back I launched yet another upgrade attempt. This time, it worked. Beeped, AC disconnect, and LEDs started flashing. About 30 minutes later, it was done. 14.1. Catching up on this thread, I realize that I never finished my story. My second unit's upgrade, which was the one in service and which had therefore been kept up to date (5.8.4 13.2) went 100% smoothly. I didn't have to anything beyond pushing the upgrade packages button in the AC and waiting about 10-20 minutes. -Tom 1 Quote

I would imagine it was as early of a release as any. No BIOS updates for me, as far as I know (though there was a session I had with UD where they did a lot of fixing of things that I was unable to follow...perhaps they loaded this BIOS?). No problem since, including uneventful update. I have updated all the UD Mobile apps I have on android and iOS devices. I have synced them all. Everything that I see and can recognize suggests that matter is incorporated and active. I have yet to have, or have read about, a successful addition of a matter device into iOX. bob123 Posted March 1 Posted March 1 I also had an early-release Polisy. It required some UD support sessions to get it running initially - I had waited a couple of years from when I purchased it to actually turning it on. I was fully up to date (5.8.4 and 13.2) when I attempted the upgrade. It totally bricked. Used the usb adaptor to reflash the ssd which brought it back to limping mode. Required a few hours of Michel’s magic to get it fully running and upgraded. Quote

bcdavis75 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I'm happy to report that after working up the courage ( and making ample backups), I pulled the trigger and the upgrade appears to to have worked without a hitch. This has however led to a number of other questions: 1) I now see the ability to add matter devices via the ios app with a QR code. I might be wrong but I beleive if a matter devices has already been added to Apple Home, for example, adding it to another controller is done by using a code. I'm not seeing a way to do that that though. Am I missing it? 2) I see the matter menu in the admin console now. Is there an explanation of what these menu items actually do and when to use them? Sharing from google home can provide a QR code, but Alexa does not. I don't see how apple does it, but I do not have an apple matter router. I have hear someone found a way to convert a numeric code into a QR code. Regardless of all this, I don't believe the UDMobile app is working yet WRT adding matter devices. Quote
Guy Lavoie Posted Tuesday at 02:53 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:53 PM You can create a QR code here: https://qrfy.com/?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=17317470455&utm_term=make a qr code free online&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA5pq-BhBuEiwAvkzVZfy_UW8SDHl3_jj1ioTPcJ5J-vaRQYxDKxsh6VysN1mk_7Pd19OsphoCPfQQAvD_BwE Just choose "text" and enter the code as text, as I've done here: 1 Quote

JCS Posted Wednesday at 09:30 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:30 PM I know that many folks are trying to add Matter device on eISY but how about seeing eISY devices (Insteon) in Apple Home App? I saw a video of this on the news page. Quote
johnnyt Posted Wednesday at 11:02 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:02 PM Updated my Polisy today, which was at latest I could get before this update, i.e. 13.2 and 5.8.4, and it worked fine. I was an early buyer of the Polisy but I went through the pain of getting updated BIOS, etc. some time ago. I made some popcorn and watched it happening in real time by opening a Putty session and typing in: sudo tail -f /var/udx/logs/log It did appear to skip some things (like OS upgrade) the first time around to do some other things first then go back to do the things it skipped, with long pauses along the way so that's why I guess it takes a while. Guessing 15 mins in my case. I saw a lot of messages about things not needed or up to date, so that helped timewise in this case. Quote
