Sunset of Java Admin Console is Premature

Featured Replies

Looks like we're moving out quickly to remove the Java Admin Console... That's great... But it's not feature complete yet. I have some Z-Wave locks and when using easy-ui, I can't set the user codes, I still need to use the Admin console... I can't be the only one in this situation... Maybe I'm just not smart enough to figure out how to do it in the new UI...

I would agree with you... But it seems that they've drawn a line in the sand at 12/15/2026 per here: https://www.universal-devices.com/bye-bye-admin-console-java/

So... Yea, I realize that "end of support" doesn't mean "end of use", but something tells me that they're going to be making changes that will eventually break the Admin Console.

I'd just like to see something formal that says they will commit to 100% feature parity before they pull the rug out. These things literally run our homes...

I'm trying to figure this phaseout - out. Am I understanding that in lieu of the AC you simply log into the eisy through the web address, in my case, 192.XXX.X.XXX? When I tried that I get an entirely new format. Is this what I need to learn? Thanks

Hi All,
We are very close to feature parity in eisy-ui. We have staged release planed for the next couple of weeks.
Currently in staging we added the ability to add all devices, awaiting a few bug fixes for beta release soon.

The our next planned release will add features such as Network Resources and a few other settings not included in todays beta release.

Is "Protocol Config" the thing that lets you modify devices via the web ui?

Yes, in the side menu will be Zwave/Zigbee/Insteon/Matter Protocol level settings (e.g. add device/ etc). the Nodes Context menu will now has a configuration option for the device level protocol settings.

User Codes was missed. Working on this today for the next release.

I do appreciate that we're given ample transition time. But it's very different and getting used to the new format will take time.

Do you have something in place to programmatically ensure you're not missing other things?

The Admin is not going away, it is just unsupported after that date. If you are using MacOS it will likely break at some point next year. Upon testing MacOS 28 we realized the Admin Console would no longer work. So we wanted to give ISY994 users as much time as possible to ensure they create backups or upgrade if desired.

With that said, we changed our upgrade process to include 3 versions production, beta, and staging. So we can provide quick fixes in staging if something was missed after December 15th. Also the firmware and eisy-ui are no longer coupled (the Admin Console was coupled) to the Firmware so we can provide fixes to the ui without a full firmware release. Today's beta will provide ~95% of the Admin Consoles features, The next release should cover ~99%.

Does this mean no support for the Java app that I locally run and program my isy994, or that I won't be able to even connect to my local 994i with the local app?

ISY itself continues to run, anything you can do from an app (other than Admin Console), web, or API continues to work. There is no guarantee the Java app "Admin Console" will continue to run due to changes in JAVA/Windows/Mac environments. The java app is just a user interface for APIs.

So no fixes for changes to JAVA/Windows/Mac environments within the Admin Console. For Mac this means soon, due to Apple's planned changes, it will likely not work. We are not disabling anything we are simply not fixing anything in the Admin Console User Interface after this date.

It sounds to me like anyone worried about eisy ui not supporting their system should keep and old computer handy with java on it and just never update it. Park it next to your isy994i or polisy (if you choose not to ssh upgrade it) and keep it off the internet. Or keep a bootable image of your current computer and boot from that when you need the old java to work.

Or... Because we've paid for these devices, and we pay for support and connection to the internet for management, the company can ensure that what they give us is at least as good as what they gave us in the past before they pulled it away.

Network Resources Not sure where to find it on eisy-ui?

CONFIGURATION -> NETWORKING -> NETWORK RESOURCES

I use it for NFTY.sh messages to my phone, Notifications are ok, but I use NTFY for lots of my programs other than eisy. Using java admin console it was easy to add them in, but don't know where they are on eisy-ui

Thanks

It is staged for a release very soon.

It doesn't work on the new Golden Gate beta. There might be a work around with an open source version, but the Oracle version doesn't run now.

On my machine, the admin console is not even close to being ready. If I right click on a device, I get a black box. If I move the cursor to the black box, the options show up, but are barely readable. I cannot move devices to scenes. I cannot sort folders or devices alphabetically. I cannot move scenes into folders. If I click on a program, the right panel shows a bunch of blank lines (I can click on an individual line and see it, but cannot see the program in its entirety.)

These are only some cursory observations. I trust that these are known problems. I can say that when I try to modify my system, I first try the HTML console, but 90%+ time I must go back to the java version.

I just went to the eisy ui insteon page. It says no plm connected, but of course there is, and it is working according to the java console (and because my insteon stuff is working). I clicked to turn on insteon support (which I guess means that this enables management of Insteon devices from the eisy ui), it says it will need to reboot, I say Apply, it immediately replies "error, no api found".

Also, how do we change the dark mode on eisy ui to something else. I don't find this dark mode to be very easy on the eyes.

Atl + k or Alt + t. Although there are issues with light mode in this build.

It is fixed in the next staged build along with a system option

Are you using the beta build? Note that light mode is not fully functional in this build, dark mode must be used. see previous comment.

Sorting works (may need modification for light/dark mode)

Scenes can be moved into folders (enable edit or select move from menu).

Theme toggle works although some text stays white when going to light mode.

ETA: I see you mentioned there are still issues.
